One year ago today…
I set out to post a daily devotional on Facebook for an entire year. I didn’t make it! I did however complete the challenge for well over 100 days! Although I failed in my attempt I did succeed in producing plenty of devotionals to write some shorter devotional books for all of you. The original theme was focused on overcoming fear. I called it “Fear Not 365!” Oh well…I didn’t make the 365 day mark but I did learn something. Fear loses its hold the more you put Jesus in your life.
As a result of this failed endeavor, I will be working on putting together some 30 and 40 day devotionals to be printed in the near future. Remember, I am also working on “Preparation for the Rewards” (Book 3) during this process, so the devotionals may take a little longer to develop.
The first devotional I put out in this challenge was as follows…
Genesis 15:1 HCSB
After these events, the word of the Lord came to Abram in a vision: DO NOT BE AFRAID, Abram. I am your shield; your reward will be very great. So…what can we take from this verse? First let’s notice that it is 20 generations from the first man, Adam, before God says for someone not to fear. I don’t know about you, but I find that interesting. Next we see the phrase, “After these events….” What events? Abram had just rescued Lot, retrieved the King of Sodom’s property and returned it, denied a reward for his actions, been blessed by Melchizedek, and paid the first tithes mentioned in the Bible to Melchizedek for those blessings. For Abram’s selflessness, God is offering comfort to His chosen person. God does this with
- a Command, “do not be afraid,”
- an Assurance, “I am your shield,”
- and a Promise, “your reward will be very great.”
God gives Abram a “CAP” to cover his worries. God will do the same for us if we let Him. He can cover all of our worries with a CAP, Command, Assurance, Promise! Don’t miss His blessings today. Let God handle the hard stuff.
