Settled down…

We are all settled in for the night…

As the girls sit under blankets, watching a movie this evening, my wife and I settle into bed ready to rest ourselves from an afternoon of food and shopping. We are tired, and that’s putting it lightly. However, I do want to take time to thank God for the blessings I have received today. I got to see an old friend from work who no longer works there. He was preparing to go out of town for his job, but it was still good to see him. My wife and I got to enjoy a meal with just the two of us, even though our conversation was wrought with school and family life. I got some new clothes: something I usually don’t do unless I need to. Found out that I have lost more weight and maybe able to go down another size soon. Yay me! But most importantly, I get to listen to my children laugh at their movie in the other room and spend quiet time with my wife.

God provides everything we need in life. We just have to realize what our needs really are. I think we tend to focus on our wants too much. We lose sight of the important things. We say we are looking for happiness, but we forget to find joy. Jesus gives us joy! It comes in the simple things. A quiet evening at home with your family. An unrushed afternoon out with your spouse. A meaningless movie that won’t matter in the morning. These things are simple. They bring me joy. God let’s me see that. But for this I am most thankful:

“For God loved the world in this way: He gave His One and Only Son, so that everyone who believes in Him will not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send His Son into the world that He might condemn the world, but that the world might be saved through Him. Anyone who believes in Him is not condemned, but anyone who does not believe is already condemned, because he has not believed in the name of the One and Only Son of God.
