Scripture Passage

“Then the LORD appeared to Abram and said, ‘I will give this land to your offspring.’…”

-Genesis 12:7

“Now the promises were spoken to Abraham and to his seed. He does not say ‘and to seeds,’ as though referring to many, but referring to one, and to your seed, who is Christ.”

-Galatians 3:16

“Abraham is to become a great and powerful nation, and all the nations of the earth will be blessed through him.”

-Genesis 18:18

“Just as Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him for righteousness, then understand that those who have faith are Abraham’s sons. Now the Scripture saw in advance that God would justify the Gentiles by faith and told the good news ahead of time to Abraham, saying, All the nations will be blessed through you. So those who have faith are blessed with Abraham, who had faith.”

-Galatians 3:6-9

Message

God promised Abraham two things. First, that he would be the father of a great nation. Second, that his offspring would bless the entire earth. Both promises were fulfilled in time.

Sometimes we do not get to witness the promise God has given us first hand, but rather have to have faith that He will deliver in the end. Abraham did not get to see how large the nation of Israel would become. He also did not know that the Messiah would come through his family and save the world. All Abraham could do…was Hope!

Sometimes, Hope is all we have. Through faith, we can trust that God will fulfill our Hope. God keeps His promises; even when we do not get to see it. All we have then, is Hope.

Let your Hope for the future grow your faith in God! Let this Advent serve as a reminder that God keeps all of His promises. Sometimes, they may be on His time, not yours. Keep Hoping!

Prayer

Our Father in Heaven,

Grant our Hopes! Strengthen our faith in You so that we may understand Your promises. Like Abraham, we know that we may not always see the promise fulfilled. Give us faith that You will fulfill it nonetheless. We ask these things in the precious name of Jesus.

Amen.
