Scripture Passage

When King Herod heard this, he was deeply disturbed, and all Jerusalem with him. So he assembled all the chief priests and scribes of the people and asked them where the Messiah would be born. “In Bethlehem of Judea,” they told him, “because this is what was written by the prophet: And you, Bethlehem, in the land of Judah, are by no means least among the leaders of Judah: because out of you will come a leader who will shepherd My people Israel.”
-Matthew 2:3‭-‬6
Bethlehem Ephrathah, you are small among the clans of Judah; One will come from you to be ruler over Israel for Me. His origin is from antiquity, from eternity.
-Micah 5:2

Message

While Herod was set to deceive the wise men, promises were being fulfilled. The prophet Micah had foretold that Bethlehem would be the birthplace of the Messiah, and God had kept that promise.

We have to trust that God will keep His promises to us, because He Loves us that much. He promised a Messiah would come to save the world, and He sent His Son to fulfill that promise (John 3:16). He expects us to show Love for others similarly.

Whenever you give your word to someone, and keep it, you show Love for that person. Jesus said to let your yes be yes (Matthew 5:37). When you Love someone, you have respect for them enough to keep your promises.

Spend some time this season thinking about some of the promises you have made that you haven’t fulfilled yet. Try to make good on those. Show that person that you do Love them.

Prayer

God,

We know that we have not always kept our word in the past. Help us see the importance of keeping promises. Help us to show our Love for others and for You by making our yes, yes. In Jesus’ name.

Amen.
