Joy is the song you sing in praise to God.
Scripture Passage
And Mary said:
My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord, and my spirit has rejoiced in God my Savior, because He has looked with favor on the humble condition of His slave. Surely, from now on all generations will call me blessed, because the Mighty One has done great things for me, and His name is holy. His mercy is from generation to generation on those who fear Him. He has done a mighty deed with His arm; He has scattered the proud because of the thoughts of their hearts; He has toppled the mighty from their thrones and exalted the lowly. He has satisfied the hungry with good things and sent the rich away empty. He has helped His servant Israel, mindful of His mercy, just as He spoke to our ancestors, to Abraham and his descendants forever.
And Mary stayed with her about three months; then she returned to her home.
-Luke 1:46-56
Message
Mary was probably still in a state of shock when she arrived to visit Elizabeth. I know that I would have been. However, Elizabeth confirmed her blessing and proclaimed to Mary that she was in fact, the most blessed among women. This gave Mary a new sense of Joy. Today’s passage is sometimes known as “Mary’s Song,” because it is her response to Elizabeth and the blessing that God had given her in bringing the Messiah through her.
Sometimes, we have to find our Joy in what seems like our toughest moments. James 1:2 says to count those moments as Joy. Mary discovered that what should have been a disgrace to her, was her greatest blessing, and rejoiced! We should find every excuse to do the same when we let God be the source of those times.
Prayer
Lord and Heavenly Father,
Give us a song to sing in Your honor. Let us see that Christ is that song, and source of Joy for us. Help us to count it Joy through the trials. In Jesus’ name.
Amen.
